Racing Fuels Western Australia, on behalf of VP Racing Fuels recently challenged CAMS on there rule changes for the Targa West Road Rally event. Specifically in relation to there rule change limiting users to either a 98 RON Pump fuel (Maximun) or E85 Ethanol fuel. Our intention was to clarify this rule, as per the Australian Fuel Standards Act. The Australian Fuel Standards act does not limit the maximum RON of any pump fuel, and as such, there was a range of fuels which would be legally allowed to be used, exceeding the 98 RON Maximum limit attempting to be applied by CAMS. CAMS has since changed there ruling, and has now made the fuel ruling limited to a 98 RON Commercial Fuel, but the limitation being that the maximum Research octane level, is limited to 98 RON. By the freeing up of the rule to Commercially Available fuels, this has allowed the use of Oxygenated Race fuels as well. Since the change of this ruling, VP Racing Fuels has available the following fuels which meet these new fuel rulings. VP Motorsport 93 - MS93 which is a 98 RON Unleaded Non Oxygenated Fuel VP Roo98 - 98 RON Unleaded Oxygenated Race Fuel These fuels are currently available and Racing Fuels Western Australia is sourcing in writing, confirmation from CAMS to the eligibiity of these two fuels. We personally, hope that CAMS Reconsiders this fuel rule in the future, as the intention to limit the vehicles to a 98 Pump Fuel on vehicles being driven under racing conditions, amplifies a tendency for damage to occur due to the inconsistencies in current 98 RON fuel supplies. Additionally, the duel use of allowing the use of E85 fuels means that horsepower levels are able to match normally available unleaded race fuels. All race users should contact your local cams office and let them know your own displeasure at this unfair ruling.
